Hypnosis for Kids & Teens

Hypnosis is recognized as an effective treatment for adults, and now recent studies have shown that hypnosis and hypnotherapy for children, teens, and young adults may also be beneficial. Hypnosis for kids and teens may help alleviate anxiety symptoms, chronic pain, or other mental health concerns.

Hypnosis is a natural and relaxed state of both body and mind, akin to those moments right before drifting off to sleep or upon waking up. During this semi-conscious state, the mind remains focused while the critical faculty takes a temporary backseat. A hypnotherapist assists individuals in intentionally reaching this state to facilitate emotional and behavioral therapeutic changes. Hypnotherapy can prove effective on its own or when integrated with other treatments like cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), talk therapy, play therapy, or family counseling.

Utilizing hypnosis as part of treatment for children may aid in addressing various issues such as childhood anxiety, depression, nail biting, bedwetting, behavioral challenges, academic motivation, school or sports performance concerns, night terrors, and specific phobias like fear of the dark. A study found that kids and teens who learned self-hypnosis to deal with recurring headaches experienced fewer headaches without any negative effects from the treatment.

There are some simple techniques related to hypnosis that parents, caregivers, and even kids can try out at home:

  1. Self-hypnosis: Learning to hypnotize yourself isn't as tricky as it sounds. You can either memorize or record scripts for self-hypnosis routines. Once you've got the hang of it, you can just kick back and relax or try out some of the therapeutic tricks you've picked up from your therapist or LASO hypnosis.

  2. Progressive muscle relaxation: This one's super easy. Just find a quiet spot, close your eyes, and pay attention to each part of your body from head to toe. Notice any tension or stress and do your best to let it all go and unwind.

  3. Mindfulness: Being able to spot those pesky emotional states as soon as they pop up is key to dealing with them effectively. Mindfulness exercises can really help kids recognize these feelings before they get out of hand and remember to use whatever tricks work best for them.

  4. Subscribe to LASO hypnosis and set aside time each day for your teen or child to listen uninterrupted. You will be amazed at how quickly issues are helped and how calm your child will be after listening.
